On April 22, a meeting was held at the Georgian Wheelchair Workshop with a delegation from the National Agency for Social Protection under the President of Uzbekistan (NASP). The meeting was hosted by Giorgi Dzeladze, Chairperson of the Coalition for Independent Living, and Giorgi Dzeladze, Director of the Georgian Wheelchair Workshop.
During the meeting, the parties discussed issues related to assistive products, rehabilitation, and the promotion of independent living. The main objectives of the visit were to exchange experience with the Georgian Wheelchair Workshop and to gain practical insights into service delivery models, as well as beneficiary intake and assessment systems.
During the meeting, representatives of the Georgian side presented the four core steps of assistive technology provision defined by the World Health Organization (WHO), which ensure that users receive safe, effective, and individually tailored products. These steps include: comprehensive assessment of user needs and appropriate product selection, individual fitting and customization of the device, training for users and their caregivers on proper use, and follow-up monitoring along with technical support.
Special attention was given to the critical importance of service delivery in the provision of assistive products. It was emphasized that simply providing a product does not ensure its effective use. Assistive products must be delivered as part of a comprehensive service, covering the full cycle, from needs assessment and proper selection to fitting, user training, and ongoing support.
The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to strengthening cooperation and continuing the exchange of experience in the future.
